Why did I decide to become a Notary? There are many reasons why I decided to become a notary but one of the main reasons was because at my main job I always needed a notary. I knew if I had mine I would not have to rely on someone else, but alas I did not have mine. I found myself searching for somebody to notarize paperwork that I had in front of me daily for customers and one day I just decided, "You know what Tiffany -- how about you go and get your Notary! And then, you don't have to always rely on someone being available -- you can do it yourself for that customer!" So I did. Since then, it has made processing some paperwork for customers so much easier and much quicker.

Aside from that I was also recently divorced and looking for something to fulfill that void in my life and make up for that loss of income he provided. Sure it had been a few years since that divorce, but some days it still felt fresh and the hardship from it never really went away -- money wise. I figured maybe becoming a Mobile Notary as a part time gig might bring in a few extra dollars to help out with my bills, and well I am still waiting for it to pay off. Soon, I know it will soon! I just got started.

At the beginning, becoming a notary took up a huge bit of my day. I had to learn all this new lingo and take some classes, plus make sure I knew what I was doing -- I also had to build up a website, social media, and find a way to get clients. It was rough when I first started this journey and I felt like I was neglecting some of the people in my life. Even though I felt that way, they were all really supportive and excited for me to go on this journey. My children had a lot of fun helping me come up with business names and we picked all of our favorite -- that's how Owl Be There Notary came to be chosen as the name for the business and not just your standard First Name Last Name Notary.

The getting clients part has been the hardest for me so far. Being so new in this world and just starting out, I have to say I wish I had someone in my area that could help me get started, but doing it on my own and having this one thing as my own thing -- it has honestly been the best. I have pinned up business cards in various locations, posted on social media -- trying to do everything right all while still having a full time job. It really is hard, you know. My next step in trying to get clients will be posting flyers and crossing my fingers that will help spread the word of my new business.

So why did I take a giant leap and randomly decide to become a Notary and start a side business as a Mobile Notary? I did it to help out at my everyday job to notarize documents before sending them off for customers and I did it for myself. When I say I did it for myself, I mean I never used to do much for me so this was the first time I put my foot down and said "I'm doing this!" and did it.

But, I also found that I liked the idea of being available to help someone 24/7 when they needed it and having the means to travel to them, to assist them with their documents and earn a few extra dollars was a huge plus. While I am still crossing my fingers it pays off in the end, knowing I finally did one thing for me makes it worth it in the end.
